On May 31st, 2012, the city of Houston, Texas made the day a special one for all Valencianistas in the USA, where the club have a strong following. On one of the several pre and post-season tours made Stateside by Valencia CF in recent years, the Texan city proclaimed May 31st ‘Valencia CF Day.’
Houston mayoress, Anisse Parker, made the announcement at a reception for VCF in the city, attended by players such as Diego Alves and David Albelda. The team had been on a US tour after the conclusion of the 2011/12 season, and had played local side Houston Dynamo as part of their North American sojourn.
Valencia CF were only the second LaLiga side in history to play the Dynamo, a growing member of Major League Soccer’s Wester Conference.
The announcement of ‘Valencia CF Day’ was a surprise to the travelling part, who handed over an official shirt, a replica of the ‘Dama Iberica’ and a book of statistics and information about the city of Valencia.
